About WildPocket

Connecting people to the nature around them, one place at a time.

Our Story

It started with wanting to give my child a guide for our local hikes. He could understand simple content—a few pages with pictures and basic descriptions—but he doesn't have a phone (and I don't want him to), there's often no internet on trails, and there's no hope of having him thumb through a few hundred page guide while ignoring all the noise.

Traditional field guides are also heavy to carry, while a few pages would be ideal for a child's backpack. I realized this same challenge extended to the local trails where I volunteer with trail maintenance—we didn't have good guides for our specific areas.

I wanted something I could print a few copies of and put at trail heads to help people enjoy the wild even more. Not a generic “Eastern United States” guide, but something that answered: “What am I likely to seeright here, on this trail, at this time of year?”

That's when I realized the bigger opportunity. Parents, trail volunteers, nature centers, and outdoor educators all face the same challenge. We have access to incredible citizen science data—millions of observations from passionate naturalists who document what they see in the wild—but no easy way to turn that knowledge into practical, location-specific guides.

WildPocket was born from this simple belief: nature education should be as specific as the place you're exploring, and accessible to everyone—from curious kids to trail volunteers to nature centers serving their communities.

Our Mission
